Tutus on the Street

I just love this photo.

And the winner is...

Marigold commented:

"Well, continuing in the latin theme, I would choose "fiat lux" meaning "let there be light." Too bad the letter limit keeps me from recommending my favorite latin catchphrase, ad astra--to the stars. (Yes, I do love me some dead languages. Don't even get me started on ancient greek.)"

And my personally favorite was Joanna's contribution:

"this is so fabulous! hmmm, my words would be "kiss me here" -- this is a great idea! xo"

So sexy and perfect for the upcoming holiday!

I will contact both lovely ladies today! Congratulations!

Thank you to everyone for participating!

Date Jar

I have decided to introduce the "Date Jar" into our lives. I feel like after four years of perfect and amazing bliss of being with my dream man I don't go on enough dates anymore. Sure, we go to the movies or out to dinner once and awhile . But it usually feels like hangin' out intead of dating. So the plan is to put a few bucks into a jar every once and awhile, whatever we can give, and then at the end of the month count our change and go on a real, true date. What happens on said date depends on how much moola is in the jar. We'll have to be pretty creative at times I'm sure but that's what makes it fun.

Do you have a "Date Jar" in your relationship or any other creative ways of keeping the magic alive on a budget?

Adriano Fagundes

I had to do a post on Adriano Fagundes after seeing his Animal Collective photos.

Merriweather

If you are craving Spring like I am then I highly recommend popping some new Animal Collective in your stereo ASAP. I listened to Merriweather Post Pavillion non-stop last weekend and had perma-grin the entire time. I am by no means a music critic but I know what I like and I like to feel good. If you like to feel good too then I think you will be pleased.

My favorite song on the album so far is In the Flowers and you can hear it here or here.

In the Spotlight

You know what I noticed first when I saw this picture? No, not Mischa's glassy eyed, blank stare which she's been flaunting lately. Not even poor Kanye getting the cold shoulder from both sides. Nope, it was those fantastic fushia shoes and navy tights!!! I love it! Who is that stylish, young thing?

Domino Woes

Every single post in my google reader just announced the end of Domino. It was like 25 slow stabs one right after the other. So just to dig the knife in a little more here's my own little announcement. According to, well, everyone, Conde Nast has decided to stop publication of Domino Magazine despite the installation of a new publisher just two weeks ago. To make matters worse, the website won't even be active. I thought they would at least leave us with something! I vote for a massive Domino swap even though most of my copies have pages ripped out. Maybe we can Save Domino???

Here are some of my favorite pics from past issues:

Unless Someone Like You

I just had to share this amazing poster wedding invitation design by the Etsy seller Unless Someone Like You. I love everything about it. I think Captain McCool's beard would look good up there, no? He would be a fan of the wolf poster too. All of Leslie's designs seem pretty reasonable and they are so unique. Anyone use her work in your wedding??

Valerie Galloway Photography

I love the framed photographs in Valerie Galloway's shop. They are eerie and nostalgic and lovely. Perfect for our inner Parisian.

Comment of the Day

I want to start a new blog post to give you guys some of the spotlight. Everyday I'm going to pick my favorite comment - whether it be funny, witty, smart, inspirational, or all of the above - and give a special shout out to that reader.

Today's comment of the day comes from The Vintage Chair who commented on Would You Wear This?: "I'd totally rock it. You know, to all those red carpet events I attend... okay maybe just to the supermarket, but i'd still look fierce."

Thanks for reading and commenting, Chelsea!

I love this photo from The Sartorialist. Only in Paris could messy hair and a cigarette be ridiculously sexy!

Classy Lady

Woman with Hat, originally uploaded by Xtophotos.

I stumbled upon this classy lady tonight. Isn't she fabulous?

Would You Wear This?

Nole at Oh So Beautiful Paper posted some photos from Project Runway winner Christian Siriano's new collection. The wedding gown is quite beautiful though beyond frilly but I'm not sure how I feel about the other watercolor-y dresses.

Are they a "hot mess" or would you consider rocking a Siriano dress?

I do actually love this dress.

Vera Vogue on Parade

I discovered a blog last night and wasted much of the evening almost peeing my pants reading it. Vera Vogue on Parade has some of the most hilarious posts I have ever read.

For example:

My OBGYN: (in a thick Russian? accent, extremely disgusted) You are the whitest person I have ever seen! In all my years of being a doctor, I've never seen a person as white as you! Have you ever been in the sun? Do you ever expose yourself to the sun? You so whiiiiiiite!

Me: Well, I go in the sun, I just wear sunscreen.

My OBGYN: (unimpressed) Hmmmmmmmmmph. (Beat)You so whiiiiiiiiite!

Ladies and gentlemen, I seek medical treatment from a person who doesn't believe in sunscreen. My life is awesome.

or

My Sister, The Genius
"You know that article about those spinach artichoke Lean Pockets that got recalled?"
"Yeah?"
"I'm going to eat one right now."
"What?! There's plastic in them!"
"Not in all of them. I read that article and thought, 'Wow. Those look good.'"

and, of course, this little gem:

Party Board #10: Hot Pink Love

I hate Valentine's Day but something must be wearing off on me if I'm making all these pink party boards! This one was inspired by this gorgeous photo by Selina Lake. Hot pink = Flirty!

Trendy Teeny Boppers

When did the starting age for fashionistas become 11 years old? Seriously, I was wearing turtlenecks, paisley vests and pleated pants at age 11. (I'm not lying. There is photographic evidence of this.) Now all these extremely fashion-savvy pre-teens are popping up on Weardrobe and Lookbook!

My favorite (above) - Miss Tavi. Her blog is really sweet (and by sweet I mean quirky goodness).

Party Board #9: Blush, Cream and Copper

I'm not usually a pink kind of girl but I was inspired by this photograph. I love the hint of blush paired with cream, silver and copper and the vintage/romantic mood it conveys.

Top Row: Coco + Kelley; Martha Stewart; forget!; Snippet and Ink

Cowl Time!

Over the weekend I received a curious electric blue package in the mail.

I opened it up and the most beautiful cowl I had ever seen was sitting there.

With the sweetest name to get me ready for Spring.

Made special for me by my lovely Kristy of Things I Heart Today fame.

I am very happy to say that I have finally pressured her into opening her own shop so stay tuned for a new Etsy store!

Vogue Spain

I wish I saw everything (and people saw me) in soft focus all the time. The world would be a better place.

If you want this little buddy and live in SoCal go check it out in February!

Just leave your words in the comments with your name. I am going to use random.org to pick the winner from the comments on this post. The winner will receive a necklace with a hand stamped pendant of their words! I will pick the winner on the 30th of January.

Sweet Smell of Spring

These photos from Cannelle et Vanille have officially made me ready for Spring. It may be 75 degrees here but that new Spring smell that floats in around April has yet to arrive.

New to the Shop

Last year, a friend and I took a hand-stamping class in preparation for Make Something Day. Well, we FELL in love with it so much that we went right out and bought everything we needed to do it ourselves. We worked like busy little elves to make handmade gifts for all of our friends and family. They were such a big hit that I've decided to add this itty, bitty necklace to the shop. Everything is sterling silver and I can fit 1 to 3 initials on each of the 1/2" pendants. What do you think?

And here is the little box it will come in!

I would love for you to stop by! Auburn & Ivory
