iLove

This hilarious video is for a song written by my best friend's boyfriend, Jon, and stars said best friend and my funny beard-o. I have been watching it nonstop all morning. iLove it!

Merriweather

If you are craving Spring like I am then I highly recommend popping some new Animal Collective in your stereo ASAP. I listened to Merriweather Post Pavillion non-stop last weekend and had perma-grin the entire time. I am by no means a music critic but I know what I like and I like to feel good. If you like to feel good too then I think you will be pleased.

My favorite song on the album so far is In the Flowers and you can hear it here or here.

Neko Case: Good Song and a Good Cause

For a limited time Neko Case (probably my favorite songwriter in the whole world) is donating $5 to the Best Friends Foundation for every blogger who posts her new single (which is AMAZING). For more details on the cause and posting it on your own blog go to her myspace page.

And for now just sit back, relax, and listen to Miss Case -

P.S.: Thank you to my bestie, Ellen, for the tip!

Lovin' Locally Part II

In honor of Flatstock 16 (thanks sfgirlbybay!), I wanted to showcase some of my favorite posters from the Belly Up here in San Diego (well, Solana Beach). I keep meaning to collect posters from shows I see there (the Neko Case one is my fav but I couldn't find Will Oldham!). I really love show/event posters of all kinds especially work from Diana Sudyka and Francesca Montanari .

Party Time!

I first noticed Susie Ghahremani's work on Etsy when I was looking for some owl and octopi and then I was reintroduced to her stuff by a friend (thanks Shannel!) and THEN yesterday I really started to dive into what this lady is all about and I found out that she is pretty spectacular. And it's not just because we have stuff in common - both San Diego transplants and both went to artsy fartsy East Coast schools. I mean this gal can do it all! She is 27 and has already established quite a list of clientele for herself. She is an illustrator, musician, stuff maker, savvy business chick, and more, more, more.
I'm sad I'll miss her upcoming show in San Francisco when I'm there with my sister but I hope, hope, hope that she'll show stuff in San Diego soon!

My favorite things...

Weee - my first post. This is going to be a completely self-indulgent blog. If you like the things I like then you are all set and you should keep comin' back for more but if you don't then you are out of luck, my friend. auburn & ivory (also the name of my hibernating etsy shop) references a song from one of my favorite bands - Beach House. They have a pretty website and myspace AND facebook that you should check out and their new album is coming out - oh my god - this month!

Other stuff I'm obsessed with:
1. The Polaroid Kidd - these photos have been floating around for awhile now. The Polaroid Kidd aka Mike Brody captures a part of American culture that most of us don't see or think about. He travels around documenting places he wanders through and friends he meets along the way. They (the photos) are sad and beautiful. I think in a parallel universe I live like this instead of trucking it to an office every morning. Also available at needles and pens.

2. Anthropologie outfits - New Catalog! I just discovered these yesterday and I'm glad I did because they changed the outfits. I think I feel like striding today.

3. Miranda July and Harrell Fletcher - project website Learning to Love You More. I don't have the time to do a project myself but I love seeing what other people think up and create! Someday I'll get around to doing all of them! The picture below is from assignment #1 - "Make a child's outfit in an adult size" (and then wear it). I actually already own pink footed pajamas for adults but that is cheating.
