Not only is it Halloween but it is also a full moon tomorrow night. Today has been absolutely crazy so I can't imagine what will happen tomorrow. Good luck and have fun!

Halloween Future

I really want to go dancing tomorrow night so my Halloween costume was based purely on mobility and comfort. I had the raddest idea ever but decided that it would prohibit me from getting my groove on as much as I would like. I came up with another plan today but it definitely is not going to happen with only one day to go before Halloween. When Captain and I dated in college we went as Holly Golightly and Paul/Fred. The sweet, boring versions - black dress, pearls, little bangs, nice suit. That was before I read the book and realized what a cutesy sham the movie is (sorry, folks). Next time we attempt this couple I would like to go the creepy animal mask route. It's really the only way to do it.

{not Holly and Paul but totally creepy and loveable, no?}

Italy's Green Trend

"Biella, a small town on the banks of the River Cervo in the Piemonte region of northern Italy, has long been a regional center for textile-making and wool production, with a tradition of excellence dating back to the Renaissance."

"...a group of eco-minded citizens are working to put Biella back on the map, this time as a hub for responsible, sustainable art and design. The Cittadellarte Fondazione Pistoletto (City of Art of the Pistoletto Foundation) describes itself as 'a place for the convergence of creative ideas and projects that combine creativity and enterprise, education and production, ecology and architecture, politics and spirituality.'" (source)
Cittadellarte Fashion – Bio Ethical Sustainable Trend hosted a workshop consisting of people from a variety of areas from fashion to industry and sustainability. It explored the connections between creativity, sustainability, consumer awareness and marketing, and production. Eleven young designers were chosen to create pieces based on these principles and samples of sustainable materials brought in by participating companies. Besides fashion, there were all presentations by visual and performance artists.

French Market

I have always had this unexplainable obsession with all things French. Paris is my favorite city, I love the language, I love the food, I love the fashion, I love the attitude. Without even thinking about it my wedding theme has become Parisian Flea Market only because once I put all my inspiration pics together that's what emerged! I have decided to just run with it and now I have come across so many beautiful vintage and vintage-inspired French accessories I can't really control myself.

I need a million of these pillows!

Gorgeous vintage and handcrafted linens.
I have already spent more money here than I should have!

Samantha Pleet's Fall 2009 collection - the Halloween costume you can rock everyday???

Re-New to You

I just renewed this necklace in the shop. I'm cleaning stuff out, getting ready for the new pieces I'm working on, but I really, really adore this necklace. I would love for it to have a good home!

Cupcakes and Coordination

This weekend was a great success. I had so much fun coordinating the wedding of Erin and Chuck. I seriously have never seen so many people have such a good time and shake their booty on a dance floor. It was amazing! And Erin and Chuck are the sweetest, most gracious, most genuine couple I have ever met. They are so perfect for each other and obviously have a lot of friends and family that adore them. I am incredibly happy for those two.

While I was up there I had the opportunity to stop by Miss Christine's new shop. Christine is probably the most adorable person I have ever seen and her shop totally matches her chic and impeccable style. I couldn't leave without buying a chocolate bacon bar for my man and supporting my favorite designer - Jamie of A Desert Fete.

All in all it was one of the best weekends I've had even though I was working my butt off. I wouldn't have wanted to experience it without my best buddy Kristen. She definitely made a lot of the wedding happen with her super mercury glass display and candle lighting skills!

UPDATE: The cupcake flavors were "plum" velvet (like red velvet but more purple) with cream cheese frosting. carrot cake with maple cream cheese frosting and pound cake with vanilla glaze (my favorite of the bunch).

I'm off early this week. I'm coordinating and cupcaking my first wedding on Saturday in San Luis Obispo and I leave tomorrow morning for the dress rehearsal. I can't wait! I've had so much fun getting to know Erin these past few months and I'm excited the day is finally here (I'm sure she is too!). I was up until 2am last night baking 12 dozen cupcakes plus one giant cupcake. I have to make all the frosting tonight. I'm actually doing the frosting there to prevent a complete meltdown on the five hour trip up. And while I'm up there I hope to stop by Christine's new store!

Saudade or The Saddest Word in the World

I don't think there is a sadder (or more beautiful) word than the Portuguese word saudade. There is, apparently, no other word in any other language with quite the same meaning.

"Saudade has been described as a 'vague and constant desire for something that does not and probably cannot exist ... a turning towards the past or towards the future'." "It often carries a fatalist tone and a repressed knowledge that the object of longing might really never return." "Saudade was once described as "the love that remains" or "the love that stays" after someone is gone. Saudade is the recollection of feelings, experiences, places or events that once brought excitement, pleasure, well-being, which now triggers the senses and makes one live again. It can be described as an emptiness, like something or someone that should be there in a particular moment is missing, and the individual feels this absence. " (source)

Dan-ah's Daughters

The detail in Brooklyn-based artist Dan-ah Kim's images from her latest show - Daughters of the Blue Sky - is what first sucked me into her work. I love the composition of the subjects under wild canopies of nature and the elements and I wonder what the story these daughters have to tell. I recommend viewing them large on My Love for You is a Stampede of Horses.

Taylor's Talking Staircase

There is a funny and delightful interview in the NYTimes with choreographer Paul Taylor as well as a tour of his seaside home (he bought it for $89,000 in the 60s because his number was a match with the seller's). I'm in love with Mr. Taylor's answers and with his staircase.

Happy Boss Day!

Today is the official day for you to kiss up to your boss! I have two bosses and I made them some (pretty fantastic) pumpkin cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and graham cracker crumble topping. There are some left over in the fridge and I can't wait to go home in devour them. Actually, there are a lot left over so if anyone wants to help please come over!

And, of course, Boss Day wouldn't be complete without this video.

But Daddy I Want a Mexican Neotenic Mole Salamander Noooooow!

One of the weirdest-looking (and cutest!) animals!

Figgity

I really never intended for this blog to get all foodie on you. But I really, really love to eat. Like, a lot. And it's my week to cook and I've been cookin' up some really spectacular dishes (if I do say so myself). I just had to share.

Ever since my fig pizza from BLAH I have been obsessed with all things figs. This past weekend we devoured these fig breakfast sandwiches. They were incred.i.ble. The perfect combination of sweet and salty with flaky, yummy biscuits.

Then I experienced meatballs for the first time in my life on Monday (and again on Tuesday). Hey, I grew up in a house where the main chef (aka my mom) was a vegetarian.

Smitten Kitchen rocked my world last night with this acorn squash "pizza". We ate the entire thing between the two of us and wanted more!
What are your favorite recipes? I need to come up with some new ideas for my next cooking week!

Neo-Boho-Grunge?

In my little world, and in my wardrobe, grunge never really died. I still borrow my boyfriend's plaid shirts and cardigans and I'm pretty sure my doc martens are still in the closet at my folks' house. I do regret not holding onto my collection of grandpa sweaters I rocked throughout high school, though. I swear I had a salvation army Christmas sweater that resembled the one above (mine cost $4 not $400). Non-grunge pricetags aside, I love this shoot for it's hippie grunge feel. That's more my style nowadays.

Supporting (good) Women-Made Movies

Grab your best friend and go see Whip It. Seriously. You won't be sorry. Ellen Page is not totally annoying and there is the sweetest underwater make out scene. Plus a lot of girls kicking ass.

Happy Weekend (finally)! I just want to nap all weekend since this is my last weekend in October to do nothing. I'll sneak baking a giant cupcake in there at some point.

Rogue Vogue

Even with all the flowy, sheerness of the runway I kind of just want to dress like this page out of "Vogue - More Dash Than Cash" from 1982. Blazers, wool skirts, knee high socks and nerdy glasses. Did I forget that I live in Southern California for a minute?

Can the Clog Come Back?

I hated clogs in 1996 and I can't say I like them any more now. The Chanel show made me swoon until I got below the knee.

Not even a roll in the hay could change my mind.

Budget-ish Friendly Rental Ideas

There are some great budget friendly ideas to boost the interior of a rental (or home for that matter) in this NY Times article.

{booze tray!}

Love Cake, a baking song

A song for cake lovers 'round the world. If the cake doesn't give you a sugar high than this song just might. Also, I'm pretty sure they say "cake hole" at one point.
