Spring Elegance

I haven't been paying much attention the catwalk this year but what I have spotted here and there I have been really excited about. I'm so happy that elegant and classic shapes with unpredictable color concepts and accessories are making their way into the Spring collections.

I Want To Live Inside You

This is what I have been going for this whole time! I just need Edwin Tse to put some sort of lens on my eyes so my house looks just like his photographs when I look at it.

One Day I'm Going to Surprise Everyone With My Talents

I know I linked to this post last week but I had to share these photos of Miranda July from Vice in case you missed it. Go to the article to find out which movie the extra is from.

86.

Friday already? I have a jam packed weekend. I'm making lemon chiffon cupcakes for this lovely lady's bridal shower, picking up my new chairs from room & board, more and more unpacking. All without Captain who will be in LA shooting a music video for our friend Jon.

This is Not Ikea

Roadtrip, anyone? I need to go to here. "Cool, unique, and vintage furniture is available to people at an IKEA price." I think I love you.

{they have more than just chairs. i just kind of have a chair fetish.}

The Fantastic Gentlewoman

I'm intrigued to learn more about the Fantastic Man's new counterpart - the gentlewoman. A whole article on the power of napping??? I can get into bed with that. Oh my.

On the Cheap???

$5,000 budget for a 1 room makeover? That's on the cheap? Oh, haha, of course it is, how silly of me. Give me 5K any day and I'll turn my apartment into a chic, fashion show post-party worthy pad too.

J. Morgan Puett

I have barely scratched the surface of the work of designer, artist and co-founder of Mildred's Lane, J. Morgan Puett. Please wander through her site for her inspiring clothing, interiors, sculptures and paintings, architecture, etc., etc. I especially love the chicken coop and tents.

Mildred's Lane

In 8th grade I tried to get my name changed to Millie Lane. It's mildly pornographic I now realize. Mildred's Lane is not a 13 year old girl but rather a gorgeous restored farmhouse that holds the Mildred's Lane Historical Society and Museum and artist colony in Pennsylvania. I find the philosophy of Mildred's Lane and the scenery equally inspiring.

"The core of the project practice and educational philosophy at Mildred's Lane is an attempt to collectively create new modes of being in the world – this idea incorporates questions of our relation to the environment, systems of labor, forms of dwelling, all of which compose an ethics of comportment – and are embodied in workstyles."

Captain's Corn and Cilantro Salad

After our morning at the farmer's market (one of my FAVORITE things to do together I have decided), Captain made me the most yummy delicious salad I have ever had in my life. Seriously, it was like dessert it was so good. I couldn't stop complimenting it. And it's not so bad to look at either (sorry our kitchen does not get much light).

Captain's Corn and Cilantro Salad
1 ear of sweet corn
2 heirloom tomatos
a couple of handfuls of organic herb salad mix (Earthbound Farms is my fav)

Boil the corn for 5 minutes and let it cool. Cut the tomatoes into wedges and mix with greens. Cut corn off the cob and sprinkle on top of greens and tomatoes. Mix with the vinaigrette (or drench in my case). MMM!

Sparkle Motion

Once upon a time I thought sequins were made exclusively for pageant princesses, mother-of-the-brides and Vegas showgirls. Now I understand that in small dosages a little sparkle can go a long way.

Meet Brigitte

Brigitte is the newest member of our family. After over an hour of walking around the swap meet with no luck in the furniture department I spotted her hiding behind a booth of vintage Playboy magazines. It was love at first sight and we quickly adopted her and brought her home. We are still coffee table-less but at least we have a "Portrait of a Blonde". Now we're on the hunt for the brunette or red head.

Weekend time! Sunday I'll sleep in but tomorrow we're getting up early early to grab the good stuff at the swap meet (let's hope)! I miss the flea markets of the east. They just don't make 'em like that over here.

Steep Street

My jaw has continued to drop lower and lower the more I check out the work of Kelty for her design/photography/everything creative one-stop shop Steep Street. It started with probably the coolest wedding favor/photoshoot ever (with her equally talented and creative sister, of course!).
And then the rainbow/polaroid business cards? I die.

And puppy portraits!

Boxes, Cubbies, Containers...oh MY!

Apartment Therapy reminded me today that I need to get my act together and organize the craft/office space. Right now the 2nd bedroom is being used as the "danger zone." Everything that doesn't have a place at the moment (books, my bike, Captain's dirty clothes) has been thrown in with no regard to order. How much would I love a room like the ones featured on AT. But, honestly, does that fabric in Wren Handmade's cubbies really stay that organized ALL the time??? Please make me feel better about myself and say no.

Jetsetting Around My Own Little World

Turns out that not only can I drool over marked down yet still-too-expensive-for-me clothing at Gilt and Giltfuse but I can now fantasize about luxury vacation getaways that are still unattainable even with that big ol' slash through the original price! (Thanks, Amanda!)

Jetsetter is the newest member of the Gilt Groupe and "provides exclusive access to insider travel deals". Can't afford the $1105/night room at that celebrity resort in Mexico? Not too worry! Now you can sip mai tais along the private, beach side lagoon for a mere $699/night!

Hammocks and coronas not your thing? How about chic and boutique in SoHo

or South Beach?

OR "Visit Tuscany...with 34 of your closest friends." That only comes out to $150/person! Not bad!

Snippet and Ink Love

Welcome to everyone who visited from Snippet and Ink! I'm an avid reader of Kathryn's blog so it was a big honor to be on her link list last week! Thanks for stopping by!

Girl Crush: Michelle Williams

I have had a significant crush on Michelle Williams that started sadly not upon viewing Brokeback Mountain but after the yellow dress with side swept bun at the Oscars in 2006. My adoration only flourished when I saw Wendy and Lucy last year (I highly recommend renting it and bringing along the tissues). Though I admit to admiring her classic, carefree style I also respect her level-headed, practical and soulful take on life and her fierce intelligence. These traits are only emphasized, though somewhat shadowed by the author's preoccupation with tragedy and fashion, in the October Vogue feature- A Field Guide to Getting Lost. It's unfortunate that the role models for girls who are most exposed through the media are vapid, airbrushed, scantily-clothed products instead of women like Michelle Williams, someone who appears to be a deeply intelligent, compassionate woman and devoted mother and friend.

Thinking of Things is Kind of Fun

I could probably post about things I find on We Love You So all day but, after this one, I'll let you go over there for yourself. I just kind of adored this drawing by Kevin Hooyman in every single way.

From Wild Things to Baby Toupee

I had to share the web adventure I just had with you. From this post on even*cleveland I found the inspiration site (of sorts) for Where the Wild Things Are. On We Love You So I discovered the myspace page for a Karen O (of Yeah Yeah Yeahs fame) side project - Native Korean Rock. NKR claim that this is their band website. I don't even know what to say right now.

Roadside Photographs

Just came across this post about Jen Zahigian's etsy shop Roadside Photographs on Bliss that reminded me of my motel postcard post from yesterday. I'm crazy about the Mom's Motel sign.

Art I Wish I Could Afford

Amanda Hughen's landscapes really tug at my earthy heart.

Motel Postcards

Captain is having a reading of his script - "A House is not a Motel" - in LA at the end of the month and, searching for some inspiration, he came across this website today of old motel postcards. I love the mid-century designs and larger than life motel signs.
