Bohemian Nautical

Really thought I had coined the term "bohemian nautical." It was the only logical explanation for the marriage of my and Captain's styles. This house tour proved me wrong but reaffirmed my belief that this design scheme is the right one. Mixed in with a little bit of old lady chic that just seems to pop up unintentionally. What the hell is that? How can some people pull off botanical prints and mid-century modern furniture without it looking like grandma's house?

Steep Street

My jaw has continued to drop lower and lower the more I check out the work of Kelty for her design/photography/everything creative one-stop shop Steep Street. It started with probably the coolest wedding favor/photoshoot ever (with her equally talented and creative sister, of course!).
And then the rainbow/polaroid business cards? I die.

And puppy portraits!

Label Me

I'm a sucker for a good font. On diner menus, wedding invites, cheesy motel signs. Then there is a real fine label. I should have studied graphic design like my mama told me. Labels with good font? That is the way to my heart.

Mama's Gonna Buy You a Cart and Bull

Ok...maybe I'll hold off on the bull. But ever since I saw it at the Ace Hotel (I know...shut up already about the Ace) I have been searching for an old industrial cart. Then I find a perfect specimen (with a not so perfect price tag) at Renovation Hardware! I sent it to captain and he said "Coffee tables don't usually make me swoon but this one makes me dizzy!".

It would look so good with the butterfly chair I'm coveting.

and the wonky Danish mirror I want.

Oh and with this bedroom which I imagine that I'm sleeping in while I dream.

I can't wait to get my hands on Lauren Dukoff's new book "Family" {found via here and here} with pictures of all my favs - Little Joy, Bat for Lashes.

Faux Film Festival

This design project for a faux Wes Anderson Film Festival is genius. I wouldn't be surprised if it actually happened now.

ACE HOTEL: Palm Springs

I am obsessed with the Ace Hotels especially the Palm Springs location. This is exactly what I want my house to look like. It brings to mind 70s California, Henry Diltz and The Doors. I love that the rooms have record players. Not sure why I would need to stay in a hotel to listen to records when I can do that at home but I have a feeling my Gram Parsons albums would sound so much better in this environment. Check out Michael Antonia's photo shoot there with his wife and baby (aka the most gorgeous family in the world).

A little space

Ok. Maybe it's because I'm feeling a lil' eggy but I love this room, don't you!?

Lovin' Locally

I am in complete love with the stationary over at the Encinitas-based Byvik Ink. Printed on 30% recycled or 100% cotton (tree-free) and super cute?! It really doesn't get any better than that! Wait $6 for that three pack of awesome travel bookmarks? Are you joking? Ok, it just got even better! Can you handle any more good stuff? Christina, half of this wife-husband design duo, creates beautiful illustrations as well!

We have a concert tomorrow night but Sunday - sweet, sweet, Sunday - I am off and Captain McCool is off and I'm looking forward to being lazy and irresponsible and going to the beach and buying a vintage dress and maybe some records! Have a fantastic weekend everybody and take some time to be lazy and irresponsible too! Here are some things to kick start the weekend:

  • If you're in New York (*hem hem* Sera), you better go to the BRAND SPANKIN' NEW Brooklyn Flea and take pictures and buy stuff and tell me all about it;
  • Ladies, this is just HI-larious. I'm a little wary about my comfort level but I might have to do a test drive with one of these babies;
  • And we all need some inspiration sometimes. I know I've been talking about them all week but I just can't get enough of Erin, Holly, and Marisa;
  • Cute stuff from a cute new blog;
  • Alright, get out there this weekend and do a trust fall or two.

Storage Solution

Bill sent me this link this morning (I'm supposed to say "My boyfriend is so cool he found this I love him so much" or something like that). Anyway, we have been trying to come up with some sort of solution to the CD situation we have aka hundreds of CDs stacked against the walls in a heaping, ugly mess. Granted we only have one floor so we don't need stairs but if we did have stairs this would be awesome!

I'm in love...

with everything Irina Graewe does. (thanks to desire to inspire for the tip)

What's in your cupboard???

Everyone's a lot rock n' roll today. I'm drooling over the ultra-coolness of Hailey von Purr's "sexy home." Girl has an Elvis bed and reptiles!

What's in your cupboard?

I want to start a new personal design day section on here. It's more fun for me to see how real people decorate their spaces and their wardrobes then to look at carefully calculated photospreads or showcases in magazines. If you're really proud of your style or a room you decorated or your apartment I would love to get pictures to post about here on Wednesdays. I started looking at different design groups and I kept clicking on photos that belonged to ninainvorm. She has some really great collections and puts everything together so well.

I love wallpaper! Nina also puts up pictures of her new house on her own blog.

Can I move in?

That's it! I'm packing my bags and going to San Francisco. I will sit on the doorstep of this house until Monique and Richard finally cave and let me live with them. I adore every little nook and cranny of this apartment from the mismatch chairs to the collections of jars on the mantel to the tree wallpaper to all the books and maps!!! All my life I have wanted a collection of globes but I have always thought that a globe is a weird thing to buy yourself so I've waited and waited to receive one as a gift with no luck. Next time I spot that perfect globe I'm grabbing it!
