CYRK

I was checking out the Stamp and Matchboxes post on Orange You Lucky! last night and the mid-century Euro stamps reminded me of the poster exhibit that's going on right now at Birch North Park Theatre of Polish and Jewish CYRK, theatre, and opera posters. These posters were done by pretty prominent artists of that time period and the artists tended to hide their own social and political commentary in their artwork. Bears often represented the former Soviet Union and the use of the English word "circus" instead of CYRK may have hinted at a pro-Western outlook.
